Training for the school inclusion of people with autism spectrum disorder

How do you build a school where every student with autism truly feels welcome? It starts with the adults around them. This is the idea behind KNOW AUT, the training programme towards a more inclusive school, bringing together teachers, educators, families and specialists around shared knowledge, tools and a common language.

It is promoted by the Municipality of Potenza, lead municipality of the Territorial Social Districts of the region, thanks to the Fund for the social inclusion of persons with disabilities (Prime Ministerial Decree of 29 July 2022) of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Minister for Disabilities. The aim is to support the school pathway of students with autism spectrum disorder, in full coherence with their individualised therapeutic project and the PEI (individualised educational plan).

Sintesi gives shape to the Training Line: it takes the Administration’s guidelines and turns them into a concrete plan, designed for those who live school and caregiving up close every day; school staff, social and educational workers of the Territorial Social Districts, family caregivers and sector specialists find here a shared space for growth, open to the whole region.

So that no one is left out, not even because of distance or time, the training is delivered through 26 livestreamed sessions, all recorded and also available on demand. From the characteristics of the autism spectrum, through the regulatory framework, to the main educational methodologies and strategies for making the classroom a truly inclusive environment.

The content is guided by a leading figure in the field: Prof. Filippo Muratori, formerly Professor of Child Neuropsychiatry at the University of Pisa and head of the Developmental Psychiatry Operating Unit at IRCCS Stella Maris. He oversees the scientific direction, choosing the lecturers and defining the programme.

Project carried out with the contribution of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Minister for Disabilities. CUP B33C24001970001, CIG B4D6FC26C1.
